Our house (and the cat)

Our cat Mo....well, he's really the neighborhood cat but he more or less rules our house.

I took some photos of my new favorite home in the world...its so great! The pictures don't do it justice though.

Our bedroom...with a working fireplace...sweet!

Lover's Leap and views from Otago Peninsula

These photos were taken about 30 minutes away from Dunedin out on the peninsula. Its incredible how many amazing places you can reach in such a short trip from town.

Yes, the water is actually that blue...amazing!

It was a little bit windy that day so Keira had to hang on for dear life to not fall off the staircase over the barbed wire...

McLean and Matai Falls

Located in the Catlins, these waterfalls were another of our stops along the southern scenic route back from Stewart Island.

The Cathedral Caves

Located in the Catlins, these huge sea caves are only accessible at low tide. We were lucky enough to be driving by just then...

The tide came in a bit faster than I expected and I got a little bit wet...ooops. Since I was already soaked we just decided to go swimming even though the water was freezing.

Curio Bay

Curio Bay - a Jurassic Fossilized Forest. The petrified trees were buried by volcanic mud and then later unearthed by the sea.

The Southern Scenic Route

On the way back from Stewart Island we took the Southern Scenic Route up the Coast from Invercargill to Dunedin and stopped at some incredible places along the way.

Halfway between the equator and the south pole...amazing!

Naptime for this seal...

Stewart Island

Taken from the back of the water taxi in Freshwater River, Stewart Island

A view from the dock at Fred's Camp, the hut where we stayed on the island.

I got to spend two days as Keira's research assistant, which basically meant I learned how to distinguish blue mussels from other types of mussels, picked up a few hundrew of them, and then put them into these stainless steel cages which are now hanging out under water for the next six months.

Another view from the dock...
